Plant-based medicine on the rise

A few years ago, you probably hadn’t even heard of CBD, right? Making an appearance on the National Calendar in 2018, National CBD day is observed on 8 August to highlight the benefits of CBD and spread awareness about the many uses of this cannabidiol.

CBD enthusiasts set aside the entire day to appreciate CBD and the many ways we can introduce it into everyday life. Cannabis products have long had a problem in the media, making it tough for CBD to get a lot of attention, however CBD usage has seen an impressive growth in the last few years.

This versatile ingredient can be taken in many ways, with some of the most popular ways to take CBD including CBD oils, CBD gummies and CBD balms. There are even CBD cosmetics and CBD skin creams which are becoming increasingly popular.

History of CBD

While hemp has been farmed for ages and cannabis use has been around since at least 2737 BC, CBD is only a relatively recent phenomenon. Research into cannabinoids began in the early 19th century, when Robert S. Cahn made clear the structure of CBD, paving the way for further research and the eventual synthesis of cannabinoids. Shortly after in 1940, CBD made its first appearance.

20 years later, Israeli scientist Raphael Mechoulam synthesised CBD and THC in his lab and concluded that THC was the psychotropic compound in cannabis and that CBD was not! Research into CBD and hemp continued for the rest of the 20th century, revealing more about CBD – leading to increased use.

In 2018, all hemp products became federally legal, and CBD is now available in a variety of forms, including oil drops, skin creams, muscle rubs, e-liquids, drinks and a variety of edibles, making this holistic alternative widely accessible for all.

With huge surges of interest in the health and wellness sector, National CBD Day aims to raise awareness of its many benefits while continuing to be shoppers’ number 1 choice for holistic alternatives for pain relief, anxiety, depression, heart, muscle health and much more.

Is CBD a drug?

CBD is a chemical found in marijuana. CBD doesn't contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient found in marijuana that produces a high. The usual CBD formulation is oil, but CBD is also sold as an extract, a vaporized liquid and an oil-based capsule.

CBD is a product made with hemp plant extracts that is benign and non-intoxicating. CBD/ CBD oil has many benefits including enhanced concentration, optimal relaxation and sleep routines, faster exercise recovery and general wellbeing. Food, drinks and beauty products are among the many CBD-infused products available online.

Celebrating National CBD Day

Experts in the field use National CBD Day as an occasion to raise awareness about plant-based medicine. The day has largely been spent with sufferers of epilepsy talking about their life changing moments involving their transition from their traditional medication towards CBD oil.

CBD oil offers a relief from muscle pain and anxiety, and many people prefer using CBD instead of prescription painkillers. Although painkillers work, they can also be addictive or have adverse side effects.

While the medical system is important, it doesn’t always have to be the first option, especially for muscular or mood disorders. Many alternative methods have proven to be successful, so why not try CBD?

If you want to celebrate National CBD day, invite some friends over to try CBD infused tea, or have some CBD gummies after dinner. There are also a wide variety of products on the market that you could find very beneficial. Today and every day, have an open mind or consider a holistic approach.

Happy CBD day!
